01 / Inquiry & brief

The brief: consistent glassware across 50 restaurants

On March 5, 2024, Yueshan's procurement team contacted Glarivo about a custom glassware program. Existing glasses varied between stores, decoration wore during washing, and monthly breakage was approximately 2,000 pieces. The group wanted a recognizable tabletop presentation with fewer replacement and replenishment problems.

Glarivo replied the same day and arranged a video meeting for March 6. The initial range comprised a 500 ml straight tumbler, a 350 ml juice glass and a 300 ml craft beer glass. The brief covered brand consistency, dishwasher use, stackability, breakage reduction and a presentation customers would want to photograph.

02 / Store requirements

Turning store routines into a product specification

During three rounds of discussion from March 6 to March 8, the teams reviewed how the glasses would actually be handled, washed and stored. The design direction called for clear glass, smooth rims, thicker bases and stackable forms, with understated branding suited to the restaurant interiors.

  • Dishwashing

Dishwasher brands, operating temperatures and washing cycles across the stores.

  • Storage and handling

Glass rack dimensions, available storage space and practical stacking heights.

  • Beverage service

Menu portions for tea, juice and craft beer, alongside the intended serving capacities.

  • Brand presentation

Brand colors, logo and typeface, with family dining, business meals and customer photography in mind.

03 / Design

Three glass forms with a coordinated brand treatment

From March 9 to March 12, Glarivo developed proposals for a straight tumbler, a waisted juice glass and a thicker-base beer glass. The designs brought the brand identity into the glassware while keeping the forms practical for service.

Yueshan preferred a restrained logo rather than a dominant graphic. The selected treatment combined a frosted logo at the middle of the body with a thin, brand-color fired-on ring near the base. Capacity markings on the relevant 350 ml and 500 ml glasses supported consistent pours.

04 / Samples & trials

Sample checks followed by a two-store trial

Sample development took place in March, followed by a seven-day trial at two Yueshan restaurants. Staff evaluated stacking stability and handling in the dishwashing area, while customers commented on the feel and appearance of the glasses.

The project sample checks recorded 50 consecutive dishwasher cycles without logo peeling, capacity tolerance within ±3%, and smooth rims without burrs. The sample report also recorded a 1.2-meter drop check without a shattered base and a 100°C-to-0°C thermal-shock check without cracking. These were project-specific sample observations; the store care instructions advised avoiding rapid temperature changes.

  • Staff feedback

The glasses stacked securely and were less easily knocked over in the dishwashing area.

  • Customer feedback

Trial customers described a substantial feel in the hand and an appearance that worked well in photographs.

05 / Quotation & terms

Agreeing price, payment and delivery responsibilities

The quotation and contract discussions took place from March 19 to March 22. The 30,000-piece tier carried an 8% lower quoted unit price than the lower-volume tier. Pricing for orders of 50,000 pieces or more included a further reduction.

The project terms included a 30% deposit and 70% payment before shipment. The agreement also addressed transport breakage above a 1.5% threshold and a 30-day replacement arrangement for logo peeling or glass cracking. These terms belonged to this specific order.

06 / Production

From forming and annealing to decoration

Production ran from March 23 to April 15. The project used high-clarity glass, automated forming and annealing to manage residual stress. Decoration combined the approved frosted treatment with printed, fired-on color details.

During production, capacity, rims and bases were sampled every two hours. The checks kept attention on the points that mattered in daily restaurant use: portion consistency, drinking comfort and stable handling.

07 / Quality checks

Six inspection areas before packing

From April 16 to April 18, the quality team carried out batch sampling with an AQL 2.5 acceptance level. The project recorded a final batch pass rate of 99.2%. Inspection covered the following areas.

  • Appearance

Checks for bubbles, scratches and visible impurities.

  • Dimensions

Rim diameter, height and base diameter against the approved specification.

  • Capacity

Capacity checks for the 500 ml, 350 ml and 300 ml glasses.

  • Residual stress

    Polariscope inspection of internal stress.

  • Food-contact testing

The project record reports lead and cadmium migration checks against GB 4806.5.

  • Decoration

Adhesion and dishwasher checks on the applied decoration.

08 / Packing & logistics

Protecting 30,000 pieces through warehouse distribution

Packing and shipping took place from April 19 to April 22. Each glass was bagged and separated with grid dividers, then packed in five-layer corrugated cartons. Cartons were marked for fragile handling and orientation, palletized and wrapped for transport. Transport insurance was included.

The order was allocated to warehouses in East, South and North China so stores could replenish from a nearby location. The recorded transport breakage rate was 0.8%.

09 / Store rollout

Receiving checks and practical care instructions

The 50 restaurants received their allocations between April 23 and April 28. Glarivo supplied acceptance sheets for quantities, glass types and breakage, together with care guidance and training videos.

The materials covered dishwasher placement, stacking heights, rim inspection, avoiding rapid temperature changes and organizing replacement stock. Store feedback described a more orderly service area, with a defined place for each glass type.

10 / In-store results

What the restaurants reported after rollout

Between May and July, Yueshan collected feedback across its 50 stores. Teams reported more consistent tabletop presentation, clearer pouring routines and improved organization around washing and storage.

The project feedback recorded in-store breakage falling from 8% to 1.2%, an 85% relative reduction, and a replenishment cycle of seven days. Decoration was reported to remain intact after 200 dishwasher cycles. Yueshan's marketing team also reported approximately 35% more social-media table photos featuring the custom glassware. These figures describe this project and its reported operating results.

11 / Reorder

An August reorder and an expanded beverage range

In August, Yueshan placed a further order for 20,000 pieces: 12,000 additional 500 ml straight tumblers, 5,000 glass pitchers and 3,000 craft beer glasses.

The summer menu informed the next refinements, including a thicker beer-glass base and a pitcher spout designed to reduce drips. The follow-up order expanded the range with pitchers and continued the beer-glass program. The relationship developed into an annual glassware supply arrangement.

13 / Customer feedback

The procurement team's perspective

“From the inquiry stage, the Glarivo team helped us sort out our store needs, and during the sampling stage they let our stores test the glasses in real use. Now the glasses across 50 stores are unified, breakage is lower, and customers are more willing to take photos. We will continue to work with them on glass pitchers and beer glasses.” — Yueshan Restaurant Chain Procurement Manager
